Celebrating our 74th Year

The New England Intercollegiate Golf Association, Inc. (NEIGA) is a non-profit organization, which was first organized in 1934 at the Oakley Country Club in Watertown, Massachusetts. With the exception of the World War II years of 1941-45, it has maintained both individual and team championships annually. It is believed to be the largest gathering of collegiate players from NCAA Divisions I, II and III competing at the same location on a 36-hole layout. There are currently 46 New England colleges and universities as members and 44 teams are expected to participate in the 2008 fall championship hosted on October 19-21 at The Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Massachusetts. This location provides two par-72 golf courses and many volunteers to assist in numerous ways. The event includes housing, business meetings, banquet and an opportunity for sponsors to interact with players and coaches over a three-day event. Several coveted awards are presented during the players and coaches awards banquet.

The NEIGA tournament receives national recognition. NCAA committees recognize this tournament as an important event in the selection of teams and individuals to be nominated for the NCAA national tournaments. The NEIGA receives support from the Massachusetts Golf Association who supplies officials to interpret rules and assist the rules committee.

The NEIGA presently has Cleveland Golf Company as its “presenting” sponsor. A number of other companies participate in the Vendors Display and provide products to enhance and off-set the expense of running a premier tournament: Back Nine USA, Bridgestone Sports, Champ Spikes, Elite Embroidery, Etonic, Golf Pride, Heritage House Hotel, Irish Village Restaurant, Sky Golf, Srixon. Sun Mountain Sports, Tournament Solutions. Each year a player inventory is conducted which records the type of golf equipment our players are using and reflects the trend of marketing emphasis.

The NEIGA is registered in the State of Connecticut as a non-profit business (I.D.#0233490) and is also registered with the Internal Revenue Service (Employee I.D.#06-1183931) under Section 501(c)(3) and is required to file a 990 form.
